No Room for all of your books??

Create a library staircase like the one below in which English oak stair treads and shelves are both completely lined with books.

With a skylight above lighting the staircase, it becomes the perfect place to stop and browse.

The stair structure was designed as an upside down ’sedan chair’ structure that carries the whole weight of the stair and books back to the main structural walls of the building.

Even if you only did this along one side of your stairway, think of how many books you could store there in what may be wasted space right now.

Your thoughts?? Do you see this working in your office or home?

Looking up the stairs:

 Looking down the stairs:

Note how the stairs are notched to make stepping and sitting easier?

You could store a lot (!!) of books on these stairs.

WOW! I know that I couldn’t build something like that, but it sure is cool!
