 I saw this and just loved its economy of means - traditional girl that I really am!

The Elastico Bookshelf is made of wide elastic bands stretched over wall-mounted pegs. The design, by Italian Arianna Vivenzio, will hold whatever; just squeeze it between the elastic “shelves”. We like the box pinched into the shelf above and the website shows it supporting a whole row of compact discs.  

On the website, look under projects, then furniture, and then ‘elastico’. (Maybe some one out there who can speak Italian can find the prices for us on the website? I could not!)

Having grown up running around the family tire shop, I can not help but think that you could easily make these by cutting up old rubber tubes. You just have to come up with the wall mounted peg system and you have a modern, contemporary, designer, shelf system for just a few bucks.  Tell your friends you ordered it from Italy!!
