I am not buying into the forecasts of total economic doom - perhaps a storm. I am an optimist as many of you can tell.
Things may get rough, but they have been rough before. I believe that we have more control over our own financial future than the general economy does. If you can make smart financial choices, you can probably weather the storm.
How you can do that:
-
Avoid debt
-
Spend less than you earn
-
Track your spending
-
Exercise spending prudence
-
Maintain an emergency fund
-
Save for your retirement
-
Ignore the media hype
(It almost sounds like a Girl Scout pledge, I know. J)
All of these are things that we can do to manage our money, regardless of whether we’re in a recession or an economic expansion. As you develop these skills, your financial life can be in your control.
