You know what items are necessary in your office. Common, basic things such as:
- Computer, printer and supplies
- Desk
- File cabinet
- Telephone
- Fax machine
However…much depends how efficiently you have your office set up. Here are some questions to consider when setting up your office for maximum results:
- Is your work space/desk large enough for you to easily do your work on?
- Do I have the files/paperwork that I use daily nearest to me?
- Am I using my desk drawers appropriately? IE: a file drawer for files (not food and personal items).
- Have I set up my systems to eliminate wasted time going to other areas for things that I use often? IE: set up office equipment (like scanners, printers and faxes) that you use often within your physical space. That will save a lot of time and be a much more efficient system. In addition, this will eliminate a major timewaster spent walking to and from that office equipment.
- Have I accounted for my natural workflow and processes so that everything I need is convenient and readily accessible to me?
Start asking yourself these kinds of questions to identify your problem areas.
There are always other options that can increase your efficiency, which in turn will increase your effectiveness and productivity.
Do it today…you will be glad you did.
